Jerusalem: A Heavy Stone

This cartoon by Israeli political cartoonist, Oleg Shartzburg,
reveals why Jerusalem is destined to remain in Jewish hands.

Ever since Israel became a nation in 1948, the nations of the world have been trying to help bring peace to this tiny corner of the world. Jerusalem has been called the "epicenter " of these 61 years of negotiations because Jerusalem is the single greatest point of contention  between the Jews and the Palestinians!

More than one peace agreement has been doomed
by this one insurmountable problem!

The Bible teaches that even though God has given Jerusalem to the Jewish people, it is ultimately His OWN possession and He will deal severely with any and all nations that attempt to take it for their own selfish purposes!

"And remember, the land must never be sold on a permanent basis because it really belongs to me.  You are only foreigners and tenants living with me"
Leviticus 25:23

See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more."
Psalm 83:1-4

I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.  And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 36: 22,23

The Lord Himself spoke through the prophet Zechariah when He warned us all:

This is the word of the LORD concerning Israel. The Lord who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the spirit within humans... I will make Jerusalem and Judah like an intoxicating drink to all the nearby nations that send their armies to besiege Jerusalem. On that day
I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone, a burden for the world.
None of the nations who try to lift it will escape unscathed.
Zechariah 12:1-3

Although the final conclusion of this prophecy will not be seen until Jesus physically returns to this earth, we can already see its partial fulfillment in the increasing consternation of the world over the "problem" of Israel and especially its failure to lift

the "heavy stone" of Jerusalem!
